China’s strategic blueprint for the next half-decade has been finalized, with artificial intelligence at its very center. The 15th Five-Year Plan, covering the period from 2026 to 2030, details a sweeping national mandate to transition AI from a field of advanced research into the foundational infrastructure of the Chinese economy.

The plan explicitly groups artificial intelligence alongside quantum computing, biotechnology, and advanced energy systems as the nation’s top scientific priorities. However, the directives regarding AI are notable for their focus on practical, large-scale deployment rather than theoretical breakthroughs.
