China’s largest technology conglomerates have simultaneously launched their 2027 graduate recruitment campaigns, revealing a massive, industry-wide pivot toward artificial intelligence that is reshaping the domestic labor market. According to a report by the Global Times, companies including Alibaba, Baidu, ByteDance, and JD.com are dedicating the overwhelming majority of their new entry-level positions to AI-related roles.
The coordinated hiring surge indicates that the Chinese tech sector has decisively moved beyond foundational model research and is now aggressively staffing up to drive the commercial deployment and productization of generative AI across all business verticals.
The scale of the AI talent acquisition is unprecedented. Alibaba, which officially opened its 2027 campus recruitment program on Wednesday, is offering positions across more than 10 job categories at 13 distinct business groups, including Alibaba Cloud, Taobao, Tmall, and its chip design unit T-Head. According to data cited from the Guangming Daily, AI-related positions account for a staggering 80 percent of Alibaba’s total openings.
Baidu, which moved even earlier by launching its recruitment drive on July 9, is leaning even harder into the technology. The search giant reported that more than 90 percent of its 74 specialized openings are dedicated to AI, spanning large language models, autonomous driving, and AI infrastructure.

The nature of the roles being advertised highlights a strategic shift within the Chinese AI ecosystem. ByteDance, which launched its recruitment drive on Monday, reported that technology and product positions account for more than 70 percent of its total intake. For the first time, the TikTok parent company introduced specific roles for “AI full-stack engineers” and “AI agent developers,” reflecting a broader industry focus on building autonomous software agents capable of executing complex workflows.
This product-first approach is also evident in the types of vacancies experiencing the fastest growth. ByteDance reported a 20 percent year-on-year increase in product management vacancies, with more than half of those roles focused exclusively on AI products. A recruitment official at JD.com noted that the rapid development of large language models has fundamentally changed the company’s hiring requirements, prompting an expansion of roles related to computing-resource scheduling and agent development alongside traditional model research. The mandate across the industry is clear: companies are looking for multidisciplinary talent capable of turning algorithmic breakthroughs into revenue-generating services.

Driven by regulatory crackdowns and macroeconomic headwinds, many of the same companies now racing to hire AI talent had recently engaged in widespread layoffs and hiring freezes. Liu Dingding, a veteran technology industry analyst, noted that the current recruitment boom is a classic indicator of a major paradigm shift. “When a major technological opportunity emerges, technology giants are usually the first to vote with recruitment and investment,” Liu told the Global Times.
This aggressive voting with capital has created a highly favorable environment for qualified candidates. Companies are deploying massive financial resources to secure top talent, offering high salaries, equity packages, and accelerated career tracks to lure specialists away from competitors. The impact on the broader job market is already visible in macroeconomic data. According to Zhaopin, a leading Chinese online recruitment platform, job postings in the AI industry rose 12.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026. The demand for specific AI engineers jumped an even more dramatic 21.8 percent over the same period.
